Women in Technology

Hackbright Academy is an effort to attract mid-career women to become computer programmers.  Students apply.  The leaders look for qualities of energy and the ability to explain a concept to another person, unusual criteria for acceptance into a program.  Students then engage in a 10 week course that involves learning by doing, pair programming, and connection to a number of interested mentors, professionals in the field.  These qualities make the effort unique, but by exposing the nature of the experience, we hope that many more instances of Hackbright or academies with these qualities show up on the horizon.  The goal is to get women into this exciting, growing field.
